Job Description

The Data Scientist Director will develop actionable, data-driven insights through research and analysis of data sources (paid as well as pre-adjudicated claims, Electronic Health Records, Care Management) and development of statistical, mathematical and predictive analyses as a member of the Population Health staff.

This individual and his or her in-house or consultant team will take large amounts of data points (structured and unstructured) and use their skills in math, statistics and programming to clean, massage and organize them that are relevant to Population Health, Care Management, and Physician Practice Transformation in support of Value Based Reimbursement, with an emphasis on real time, predictive and prospective use cases

Essential to this role will be the ability of the individual to leverage their analytic skill sets to frame the correct question, quantify the opportunity, and uncover hidden solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Co-collaborate on and also lead sub-components of analytics projects in concept formulation, determination of appropriate statistical methodology, data manipulation, research evaluation and final research reports
  • Conduct directed research and frame open-ended industry questions
  • Extract huge volumes of data from multiple internal and external sources
  • Employ sophisticated analytics programs, machine learning and statistical methods to prepare data for use in predictive and prescriptive modeling
  • Explore and examine data from a variety of angles to determine hidden weaknesses, trends and/or opportunities
  • Devise data-driven solutions to the most pressing challenges
  • Invent new algorithms to solve problems and build new tools to automate work
  • Communicate predictions and findings to internal management and external clients through effective data visualizations, reports, software applications
  • Recommend cost-effective changes to existing procedures and strategies
  • Collaborate with Product team to transition successful analyses to products
  • Design dashboards to highlight real time and predictive use cases

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred
  • 3-5 years of analytics experience. Prior experience in the healthcare setting and with healthcare data coding systems (e.g. ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT, NDC, DRG) is highly desired
  • Statistics (e.g. hypothesis testing and summary statistics)
  • Proficiency with SQL programming
  • Data visualization (e.g. PowerBI, Tableau, ggplot and d3.js) and reporting techniques
  • Proficiency in languages such as R, Python and/or SAS
  • Sentinel rule sets and operationalizing them to support programs
  • Predictive Modeling and risk prediction algorithms
  • Care Bundles and Financial Modeling to Support Value Base Reimbursement
  • Unstructured data techniques
  • Experience working with healthcare billing and/or biomedical data is desirable
  • Experience with machine learning techniques and tools is desirable, e.g. google data mining capabilities
  • Experience working with product development teams is desirable
  • Analytic Problem-Solving: Approaching high-level challenges with a clear eye on what is important; employing the right approach/methods to make the maximum use of time and human resources.
